Downtown Huntsville Craft Coffee Trail

My love for coffee runs strong and runs deep - and my Mama is the same, which is why I knew we could knock out Downtown Huntsville's Craft Coffee Trail (ten stops!) together while she was in town visiting last month. Head on over to the We Are Huntsville website to read my guest post about our adventure!

The Wild | Chinese Lantern Festival

The traveling Chinese Lantern Festival, The Wild, opened this past week at the Huntsville Botanical Garden and we made a family date of it to go check it out opening night. We've been members of the HBG since we moved here four years ago, and just love supporting it.

Holiday Happenings

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Unfortunately, it's brought lots of viruses. Tons. I've been down for the past two weeks - and when I say down, I mean days of not being able to get out of bed 🙈 Including a two-day migraine that literally made me cry. This pregnancy is kicking my butt. Thank goodness for my husband.

Scott's Orchard

Last weekend, we headed upstate 35 minutes or so from Huntsville to Scott's Orchard, which grows several different varieties of peaches and apples. It's just the beginning of apple season here, and we were thrilled to pick our own! We signed up for the half-hour tour followed by apple picking. Parker and his buddies had tons of fun on this hay bale play area while we waited for the tour to start.

Soccer Star

Neither Max nor I are what you'd call athletic. Neither of us played team sports in high school (Max was on the swim team, and I played in the marching band). So imagine our surprise that our son loves all things sports. Anything with a ball or puck - he's all over it. He wants to play, he wants to watch... you could say he's obsessed. Baseball, hockey, golf, football - he's equal opportunity. So when sign-ups went out earlier this year for his school's kindergarten soccer league, we signed him right up, despite the fact he'd never played organized soccer before.

Seinfeld Date Night

Every couple years, Jerry Seinfeld comes to town and does a one-night-only stand-up comedy routine. We went the last time he was here in 2016, and purchased tickets again as soon as they went on sale earlier this year.

Life Lately | Summer Edition

We tried a little something new this summer, and had Make It Mondays, Take A Trip Tuesdays, Water Fun Wednesdays, Thoughtful Thursdays, and Foodie Fridays 😊 Even if it was something super simple and quick like making slime on a Monday or picking flowers to gift on a Thursday, Parker had a ball looking forward to each thing.

Garden Update | July

Summer gardens are one of my favorite things ever. I love being able to pop out and grab a handful of basil or parsley - and having a little helper with me is just the best.

Summer in the South

This is our fourth summer in Alabama. I can't even wrap my mind around that fact! Granted, I spent twenty-six summers in California followed by six in Arizona, so Alabama is still low on the totem pole for seniority. I suppose it's reversed for Parker, who spent his first two summers in AZ and has now spent the majority of his life in The South.

Life Lately - May Edition

May - the month where everything wraps up! Earlier this month, it was the Museum Guild's end-of-the-year fundraiser. This year's theme: Foothills to Fine Art (boots encouraged) so Max and I both donned them for the occasion! We realized it had been way too long since we had been on a date night (Parker reminded us our last one was in December!).

A Day in the Life - Preschool Edition

Out of all the topics I've written about over the years, our "Day in the Life" posts are my very favorite to look back on. They seem so normal and trivial when penning them - but years later, it's those tiny little details that you forget. There's a quote: How we spend our days is how we spend our lives, and having documentation of this is just priceless (if you don't have a blog, I totally recommend just documenting a random day for yourself or your kids).

Hello, Friday!

I can count on one hand the number of days Max has been home (and not away on business) this month. Thank goodness for FaceTime!

Friday Five

First, thank y'all so much for the many responses to my post on infertility earlier this week. This comment especially touched upon my whole reason for doing the post:

Life Lately

Happy Spring! Spring weather in The South is nothing short of ridiculous. It was literally 83 degrees yesterday, followed by severe thunderstorms (plus fallen trees and power outages) in the middle of the night, then we woke up this morning to 40 degrees and a freeze warning. Go figure.

Happy 5th Birthday, PCK!

Our little guy is five years old! I've been a Mama for half a decade - I really cannot wrap my head around that fact! While last year was all about construction and the color orange, Parker's favorites this year include hockey and the color red. He wanted his birthday celebration to be at a Huntsville Havoc hockey game, so we let Parker choose two buddies (and their families) and we celebrated the Friday night before his actual birthday in one of the ice suites.

The Veggie | Vegan Delivery Review

There are tons of benefits to plant based eating. All the recent studies seem to be pointing to the same conclusion - healthy eating is being redefined as more plants, less animal products. Belgium recently released an updated food pyramid which lists meat as a junk food, and we all probably have a connection to a friend (or friend of a friend) whose vegan lifestyle has cured some persistent illness or health issue. I'm not a novice to veggie-friendly eating, having spent nine whole years of my life as a vegetarian.

Miscellany Monday

We are back from four days at Walt Disney World! Since I grew up in California, I grew up going to Disneyland - so this was my first trip to Disney World, and it was Parker's first Disney experience ever! There is so much that goes into planning a Disney World vacay, and I'm twelve kinds of excited to share everything we learned. Our little family of three had the best time ever

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

December is just downright magical, am I right? And being a parent during the holiday season is just the best thing ever. Each year I say it's the year Parker finally understands everything - and once again, I'm going back and correcting myself and saying this is the year! He was just so into everything! Each morning he'd run downstairs to check our advent calendar to see what Christmas activity we were doing that day, and search around the house to see what our elf, Lady, was up to.
