Five on Friday

Well, hello Friday!

1. This week has been mostly about unpacking all the things. We returned Monday after a one-week stay down on Cape San Blas, Florida, where we relaxed on the beach and I ate my own weight in gulf shrimp. It was delightful.

2. As soon as we arrived back in Huntsville Monday afternoon, Max had to switch gears and catch a flight out to the East Coast for business. That meant it was a Mama/Parker week, which we haven't had in awhile! We walked downtown for gourmet popsicles, rode P's tricycle to the park (I get to half jog behind), did picnic lunches in the backyard, went on drive-through Starbucks runs, practiced piano - basically got back into the swing of things at home. I enjoyed three nights of heavily buttered popcorn dinners once Sweet P was tucked in bed, so it's a good thing that our CSA began again this week to introduce veggies back into my life again ;)

3. While husby was away, I also caught up on the new Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale. Has anyone else watched it? It's crazy, twisted, and captivating! I'm a bit obsessed with dystopian futures (The Hunger Games, Divergent) and I really appreciate how this series (through flashback scenes) delves into the process of how the overthrow of the government occurred. I was so interested that I ordered the bookstraight away.

4. As a former teacher, I get asked quite frequently (especially around teacher appreciation week and the end of the school year) about teacher gifts. A good rule of thumb - give something you'd like to receive (and gift cards are always a safe bet, too). A gorgeous little flower arrangement? Well, who wouldn't love that?

I've said it before - if I were to ever open a business, it would so be a flower shop!! Never mind the fact that I have a difficult time charging people for things. Case in point - during my days working at the coffee cart during undergrad, I gave almost everyone some sort of discount because I just couldn't bring myself to charge them the full amount. So, in my "pink cloud" visualizations of the flower shop, I kind of just give away the flowers :) Which is what I got to do last week.

I assembled these sweet little displays (and more) for all of the preschool teachers and assistants at Parker's school. I picked up a bundle of roses and a mixed bouquet (both from Costco) and used old jelly/pesto/random jars I had been saving to make the arrangements. Cute, and super cost effective (especially when you are making multiple).

5. I posted this photo of my breakfast earlier in the week on my Instagram, and my sweet friend Melissa said I needed to open my own smoothie bowl shop. I replied it would have to be a smoothie bowl/flower shop ;)

Happy Friday, friends!

  1. That smoothie bowl and all those veggies look delicious! I love all of your floral arrangements. It was smart to save the jelly/pesto jars. Jess at Just Jess

    1. I especially love saving the Bonne Mama brand jars because they are perfect for storing nuts, granola, etc. The red gingham lids are so cute and the paper labels easily come off.
